Flight Been Delayed? Find Out if You Can Claim Compensation

If you’ve ever been waiting at the departure gate only to find your flight has been delayed or cancelled, you will know that air travel can be a nightmare. But did you know that having your flight delayed can be advantageous too? If your flight was overbooked, cancelled or delayed more than 3 hours, you could be entitled to compensation. Claiming compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight can be daunting, so we've put together a quick guide to find out if you can claim.

How do I know if I can claim for a delayed or cancelled flight?

European law (EC261/2004) was passed to ensure passengers are compensated for flight delays and cancellations. Your right to claim compensation, and the amount you are entitled to depends on how long you were delayed. To qualify for compensation, your flight needs to have been delayed by at least three hours and the amount you can claim increases with the distance of your flight.

How much could I be owed?

The amount airlines owe you depends on a number of factors - such as length of delay, the distance of your flight and whether your flight was delayed, cancelled or overbooked. To get an accurate figure on how much your compensation is worth, start your claim with us today and our UK based team will sort out the rest for you!

Do I have to be an EU citizen to claim compensation?

No. Although EC261/2004 is a European law, you don’t have to be an EU citizen to claim compensation. However, it only applies to EU airspace. You could claim compensation if your flight departed from or arrived at an airport in the EU (or from Iceland, Norway or Switzerland).

Can I claim compensation for overbooked flights?

Airlines often overbook flights to account for the percentage of no-show passengers. This means you could be bumped from a flight (or denied a seat) even if you didn’t volunteer to give up your confirmed reservation. If you didn’t volunteer for re-routing, you are automatically entitled to compensation and a full refund on your confirmed reservation.

Is there a deadline for claiming compensation?

You can claim compensation from flights as far back as 2010. Following the UK's Brexit decision, it is highly advised to claim compensation as soon as possible since this legislation broadly applies to EU member states only. Are you eligible for flight delay compensation? Find out now!
